Are you going to be giving an extra Bank Holiday in 2022?

December 15, 2021

The tree is up and the Secret Santa has been decided.

With that in mind its a good idea for employers to give thought to next year’s holiday. You will need to possibly look at your contracts of employment to tell whether you will be paying for an additional holiday in 2022 or whether you can make that choice.

In 2022 we will have nine bank and public holidays. The extra day is to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

If you express your holiday as 5.6 weeks or 28 days including bank and public holidays you will be able to choose whether you grant your employees an extra day’s leave for this bank holiday.

However, if you express your leave as 20 days plus Bank or Public Holidays then you will be obliged to pay for the additional day’s leave.

If, regardless, you have decided to grant your team an extra day’s leave you will want to inform everyone at the beginning of the holiday year so they can make their plans.

Should you have any questions regarding annual leave entitlement please do not hesitate to give us a call on 01527 909436.
